todas cuando se van me dejan algo

The Cambrige Bar, April 28th of 2005.

The bar is crowded tonight. Cat comes out among the people. She brings a glass of white wine in her hand, in spite of that, she’s moving with the grace and confidence of a wild animal.

She kisses me and smiles. I react in surprise; here it’s not very usual say hello in this way.
‘Like this kiss has to be a good story’ she winking me and finishes tellling ‘you have to Keep It Sort and Simple’ ‘You are …. ‘ I stat to tell her but she is already moving away from me and disappearing again.

I tell myselft ‘Sort…too sort ‘ like her company.

Ayer conocí a Katherine, una londinense afincada en Edimburgo, como luego aclaró.
- ¿A que te dedicas?, le pregunté.
- Soy escritora, pero para vivir trabajo de secretaria. ¿Y tú?
- Yo busco trabajo, pero para vivir escribo.
Ambos nos quedamos un poco callados. Ella añadió:
- Prefiero que me llames Kath.
- ¿Kath o Cat?, sonriendo le pregunté.
- Elige tú. ¿No te gusta escribir historias?
- Cierto, en esta, Cat será la protagonista.

Yesterday I met Katherine, a girl from London now settled in Edinburgh, as she let me know later.
- ¿What do you do?, I asked her.
- I’m a writer, but I work as a secretary to earn a living…. and you?
- I’m looking for a job, but to feel alive I write.
Both of us kept silent for a moment. She added:
- I prefer you call me Kath.
- ¿ Kath or Cat? I asked her smiling.
- You choose. You like making up stories, don’t you?
- Yes, I do. In this one, Cat will be the main character.
